Proposed Roundabout Legislation for US 68/SR 31

The City Council's regular meeting is set for Monday, June 24th at 7pm in the Council Chambers at the Municipal Building. Among the agenda items is the introduction of legislation regarding the proposed roundabout on the south side of town. The legislation will be presented before the council three times: on June 24th, July 8th, and July 22nd. These readings are designed to provide ample time for the City Council and the public to review the legislation before reaching a final decision.

The Ohio Department of Transportation’s significant legislative proposal is aimed at improving traffic flow and safety at the intersection of US 68 and State Route 31. The proposed legislation, if passed, will pave the way for the construction of a modern roundabout at this bustling junction, with construction slated to commence in the summer of 2027.

The initiative comes as part of ODOT's ongoing efforts to enhance the state's transportation infrastructure. The proposed roundabout is expected to alleviate congestion, reduce the likelihood of severe accidents, and improve overall traffic efficiency in the area. Studies have shown that roundabouts can significantly lower the number of conflict points at intersections, leading to fewer and less severe collisions compared to traditional traffic signal-controlled intersections.
